The questions of spring - Photos

When all else is brown, the crocuses bloom first. How do they do it?

What happened to this tree to make it grow like this?

There is a sort of netting over the ground some places where the snow recently melted. Why? What is it?

The melted snow revealed networks of mouse (or other small animal) tunnels that used to be between the snow and the ground. What do they do in years when there is not so much snow?

Woolly bear. Do you have some sort of antifreeze inside you? How are you active so soon?

Where did this mound come from? Was that there last year and I just didn't notice it?

This chipmunk came in to the bird blind 4 times while I was taking data today. How come he is not afraid of me?

This is an Oregon Junco. What is it doing at our bird blind, when the only Juncoes we have seen here before are Dark-eyed Juncos?

Where did this spring come from? It is right in the middle of the path between the tree house and the tree of life.

This nuthatch had just walked down the tree head first. How come nuthatches walk down trees head first when most other birds climb up the trees?
