Today the JH came
to visit us at the land school. It was very exciting and weird to see all the
other JHers in the place we have been staying for so long. I got to work with a
group of 4 other students, 2 of which are on my Farmstay. We got to harvest
potatoes with Andy.

Blog Entry: Farmstay 1, October 20, 2013
Today
we woke up at 9:20 o’the clock and got ready for farm chores. We finished just
in time for brunch. Sunday is the only day of the week that we have an actual
cook crew for breakfast. We made pancakes, bacon, potatoes, fruit salad and oatmeal
applesauce cobbler.
After
breakfast we cleaned up after the Spooktacular for about and hour. By then it
was about 1 o’the clock. We had free time for the next hour.
At about 2:00pm we left to go bowling.
Each of us got to play about two games. We also got to hang out with our
friends while snacking on pizza and pop. All of us had a great time bowling. We
got back at around 4:45pm.
After
bowling we got free time until 7 o’the clock when we started study hall. After
that we had closing and then we got ready for bed.

The Spooktacular Event
October 19th, 2013.
This event took place at the Land School this Saturday from
4 pm to 8pm. We had a fun schedule full of different activities like: pumpkin
carving, apple pressing, maze, “scary” maze, kubb, potluck, where everybody had
a yummy dinner with the different food our guests brought, and market place.
Market place is where all the farm stayers sold their micro
economy products and some land school products as well. I think the best part
of it was to see someone buying your product, it was the best feeling!!!
Let’s not forget about Donna’s birthday! We sang happy
birthday to her during the potluck and had a piece of apple sauce cake made for her by the students during Andy’s
occupation group(food preservation).
We had all kind of guests, parents, teachers, family,
friends, etc. having a good time at the event participating in the different
activities.
I hope you all had fun if you were here!

Iris' Birthday
By
Nina 10/18/13
Today we woke up and woke up Iris singing happy birthday to
her, posters saying happy birthday where hung all over the girls room. Iris
turned 13 at 7:12 A.M. and a couple girls baked a very good chocolate cake that
everyone ate after lunch. After lunch every one was very excited for archery.
We all found out which eye was dominant to figure out if we needed a left
handed bow or a right handed bow, then we went outside we found out the we only
had right handed bows, but everyone still had a lot of fun. When we where done
we had to do deep clean which we do every Friday and it took for ever, but
everyone looked forward to the make-your-own pizza dinner, and after dinner
gallery night. Also, during the day I spent 3 hours in the root cellar building
shelves.

This Farm Stay has been great so far.
I have gotten to know lots of people in the
Junior High that weren’t exactly my closest friends and I have also have made some
relationships stronger. I think that it is almost impossible to go through an
entire Farm Stay without getting to know people and not doing things together
as a whole community. I also think that it is amazing just to think for a
second about how amazing it is to have a school farm that we can go to anytime
we want and have a great time. I think that the Farmstay is super fun and it is
a great way to get to know people better. I feel so grateful that students can
come to this farm and learn new things outside as opposed to inside. Most kids
wouldn’t get this opportunity but I feel glad and lucky that this is part of
our school’s program.

Gabriel's Spooktacular Blog
Come to the
Spooktacular Event at the Land School!
Farmstay
1 has been excitedly planning for the Spooktacular Event, the climax of our
stay here. It happens on Saturday, October 19 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. Right now,
there is a communications group, which focuses on advertising like this blog
post. There is also a scheduling group and an activities group, which plans fun
games and other activities to do, such as pumpkin carving and Kubb (a game).
The other two groups are a maze group, planning a maze (unfortunately, not
Mae’s maize maze, as we’re doing it in the goldenrod).
Another
highly anticipated occurrence at the Spooktacular Event is micro-eco, where
everyone on Farmstay 1 sells something (or some things). There will be
chapstick, dried apples, cornbread, needle felted creations, photo cards of the
Land School, fudge, bleach shirts, mini cheeseburgers, carved wood jewelry,
handmade notebooks, caramel apples, and gingersnaps.
Although
the Spooktacular Event is a potluck and we encourage you to bring something,
please no nuts, desserts, or hamburger-related items (we don’t want to take
business away from food sellers at Micro-Eco).
The
Spooktacular Event is fun for all ages, and there is no admission cost. For
more information, look in the Tuesday Memo or call 715-265-7770. Please come!
Right
now, in Donna’s occupation group, we are very busy. We split into two-person
groups; one is painting the red barn door, one is building shelves in the root
cellar, and one is putting new plastic on the hoop house. When that’s done,
we’ll work on the new pizza/bread oven, make a diagram for how to put away
materials in the leaning closet, and maybe more. We are realizing that there is
a lot of work to be done “behind the scenes” to keep the Land School a
well-oiled machine (or a well-planted field).
Remember,
COME TO THE SPOOKTACULAR EVENT!
