Junior High Country Days This Week

We jumped from winter right into summer! Last weekend we used snowshoes to collect sap, and this weekend we were outside in t-shirts in 70 degree weather. The warm temperatures mean the end of the syrup season, but they bring on all the intense work of April and May. Luckily, we have the whole Junior High coming out for two days this week on Monday and Tuesday to help us get a good start on the work.

There will be two times for stewardship work. The trails and orchard will be looked after. The animals will have their environments beautified. The greenhouse will be filled in anticipation of the plant sale. The very last of the syrup will be made and the taps will be taken down and cleaned. The bird blind will be de-stocked before the bear comes again and all the bluebird nest boxes will be prepped for another season of nest-box surveys. Various maintenance projects will happen concurrently including repairs of the greenhouse and hoophouse and removal of a decrepit shed.

We'll have various activities that encourage connection to the land. In addition we'll engage in play and other community building activities. We are looking forward to great meals and good weather. It won't be too cold, but there might be rain.
